WHEN AND IF
is the quintessential John G. Alden
designed schooner, built by FF Pendleton in Wiscasset,
Maine for Colonel and Mrs. George S. Patton.
She was launched in 1939 and the Pattons planned to
sail her around the world "when and if" Patton
returned from the war that he saw looming in Europe.
Unfortunately, Patton - by then a famous General - was
killed in a freak auto accident shortly after the end
of the war. But while he never sailed WHEN AND IF completely
around the world, he did sail her before his death,
relishing her superior ability under sail. |
Enjoy a peaceful, serene, comfortable sail that is fun
and safe - a completely crewed sailing charter cruise
aboard a classic schooner ship - fit for a general.
Available for family sailing or special events such
as weddings or corporate events, complete with ship's
chef!
WHEN AND IF is ideal for several couples, for a family
group with young children or teenagers, or for a group
of friends to charter for a relaxing enjoyable cruise.
Overnight charters (or longer) are limited to 6/7 guests.
For a day sail she can comfortably accommodate up to
17 guests – a small wedding party, a family reunion,
a corporate outing, or a group of friends looking for
an extraordinary and truly memorable experience.

At 65 feet in length, displacing
43 tons with 1700 square feet of sail,
WHEN AND IF is a superbly seaworthy and
comfortable vessel with long keel, gaff foresail and
Marconi main. She has wide decks (16-ft beam), a large
cockpit, high bulwarks, and a doghouse in addition to
her commodious accommodations.
WHEN AND IF is now owned by Ruitenberg Charters,
who offer you a chance to travel aboard this unique,
historical, and sleek vessel sailing between Annapolis

WHEN AND IF has pressure hot and cold water, a shower,
holding tank, sun showers (for on deck use) and is well
equipped for coastal cruising. She is available with
linens, blankets and pillows, all housekeeping and galley
equipment, and navigational equipment plus tools and
ample spares. She even has a small library. The boat
has a certified Captain, first mate, and able cook aboard.
